Clarence Darrow's father, Ammirus Darrow went to Bethany College in Meadville, Pennsylvania. He completed his theology degree but did not become a minister. While in Meadville, Ammirus and wife Emily joined and attended the Unitarian Congregation. Vincent Silliman in a sermon on the history of the Beverly (Illinois) Unitarian Church quoted an elderly member who remembered Clarence listening to Florence Kollock preach.
